Folklore explored a new approach to my working by involving the interactions of the viewer within the installation space. A kitchen was set up in one gallery and visitors and passers by were invited to become involved with baking cakes, drinking tea and sharing recipes and stories. In the adjacent gallery space I improvised an informal concert venue into which I invited local musicians Bob Brown and Garnet McCulloch (guitars), Willie Gamble and Bill McKillop (pedal steel) to accompany my singing on country music standards. Both spaces were decorated with furniture and utensils I had collected as well as aprons, a lampshade and an oilcloth table cover which I sewed for the exhibition.
