Freedom Is Not Something You Are Given It Is Something You Have To Make

As part of One Mile I was invited to collaborate over nine months with women from the Space 44 women’s drop-in centre to create a marching banner. Making “a public statement out of personal imagery” the banner was sewn, embroidered and appliquéd by a small but dedicated team of women from the centre and a loyal group of volunteers. Our banner was launched with a march, tea party and rally outside the Scottish Parliament in May 2007. The title of the work is adapted from a quote by Meret Oppenheim.
